Sugary food is no doubt our guilty pleasure but if taken excessively, many lethal illnesses await us. Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants Malaysians to do their part in saving the country and everyone.
Take good care of your health by reducing sugar intake.
During an event in Port Dickson yesterday (September 8), PMX highlighted that Malaysia has the highest number of diabetic patients in Southeast Asia, which reflects the low level of health literacy among Malaysians.
“Please save the country, save the children, save our families, our parents by controlling sugar intake, not stopping it entirely.”
He said people should not harm themselves by taking too much sugar, without thinking about the effect on their health.
PMX also shared some tips on living healthy and said Malaysians can start doing so by reducing carbohydrate intake.
“Exercise more, don’t just jog on health month. Being busy is merely an excuse,” he added.
With multiple campaigns about maintaining your health, Anwar said the events will only work if the community starts changing their lifestyles, particularly eating habits.
Anwar advised vendors to also play an active role in encouraging people to reduce sugar intake by taking into account the health of customers when preparing food and drinks.
“We talk about AI, the quality of hospital education, but the knowledge on health is the lowest.”
Sugar can boost our energy and taste good, but the consequences can be deadly. What do you think of PMX’s efforts in reminding us about sugar intake?
