Cooo.
We’ve always heard of rumours that birds can be trained to act as spies, but we rarely come across any mention of it in the news.
Recently, a pigeon in India was found in captivity for over 8 months in an animal hospital as a suspected spy.
After learning of the animal’s hardship, PETA India sprang into action and asked for the bird to be released, and they eventually got the clearance to do so.
In a statement by PETA India, it is said that the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) Police Station found a pigeon with unique markings on its wings.
Those unique markings turned out to be illegible writing in red, suspected to be in Chinese. There were also 2 rings on their legs, reported Hindustan Times.
This made the police believe that the bird might have been a spy, and it was sent to the Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals (BSDPHA) for a medical examination.
After the procedure, the bird was kept there for 8 months before the hospital requested the police release it.
PETA India got to know of the bird’s case and reached out to the police.
“Following successful persuasion, the police promptly granted a no-objection certificate to the hospital, allowing for the bird’s release.”
After some digging, we found that this wasn’t the first time pigeons like these were found. Pigeons with red markings on their wings and rings on their legs were found in Vietnam in 2015, and it turned out that they were racing pigeons, reported Independent UK.
Well, we hope the pigeon lives a better life with their newfound freedom.
