Malaysians do not have much reason to celebrate these days with the haze dampening much of our spirits. But if it is any consolation, both Penang and KL are listed as among the world’s best cities for street food!
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Though we did not take the top spot or make our way into the top 10 for that matter, we still managed to hold our own amongst the giants of street food worldwide.
According to Mirror UK, the judgment was made based on several factors, including the number of street food vendors found, the price of dishes, sanitation, the number of street food experiences and activities available.
Taking the top spot on the list is none other than Hong Kong, which scored big points for the number of vendors (224 in total!), sanitation and food experiences on offer.
Penang scored much higher on the list, coming in at 17th and Kuala Lumpur getting the 20th place.
But bragging rights belong to our other Southeast Asian neighbours as Bangkok scored 2nd place, Ho Chi Minh City scored 3rd, and Singapore placed themselves at 4th.
Though much can be improved on our street food scene, we are sure that Malaysians out there will be brimming with pride at how we remain the only country on the list to have two entrants!
