Those who choose to leave their rubbish at illegal dumpsites in Penang will have to think twice, as the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has installed specialised CCTVs to identify and take action against offenders.
The Penang Kini Facebook page recently highlighted how MBSP has deployed ‘Watch You’ Smart CCTVs at illegal dumpsite hotspots to capture those irresponsibly discarding their garbage.

Smart AI surveillance
The council is moving towards high-tech enforcement to combat the persistent issue of littering.
The post reads:
“The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has taken a firm step by installing ‘Watch You’ Smart CCTVs at two illegal waste disposal hotspot locations in Bukit Panchor and Kampung Sanglang.
“This system is equipped with AI technology and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), which allows offenders to be identified and penalised without compromise.”
Strictly for residential use

Jawi assemblyman Jason Hng Mooi Lye has also clarified that the Roll-On Roll-Off (RORO) rubbish bin facilities in these areas are reserved strictly for the use of local residents. They are not intended for industrial or commercial parties who are irresponsibly attempting to save on disposal costs.
“More firmly, starting 1 July, Penang will enforce community service penalties against illegal waste disposal offenders, including the withdrawal of licences and permits of companies that default,” the post added.
