The case of Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s escort punching a deaf e-hailing driver in Kuala Lumpur has been a messy one ever since it took place in May. Recently, due to there being a lack of action taken against the escort, Lawyers For Liberty (LFL) along with the OKU driver released dashcam footage of the incident.

Following this, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, spoke to BERNAMA to inform that internal disciplinary action had already been taken against the escort. This caused an uproar among Malaysians as they believed that internal disciplinary action wasn’t punishment enough for the escort’s violent actions.

Now, the Inspector-General of Police is making a U-turn by saying that the internal disciplinary action faced by the escort was for something entirely different, namely for not declaring his assets.

Once again speaking to BERNAMA, he shared that once an officer is involved in a criminal case, the Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standard Compliance (JIPS) will also investigate the officer involved.

“JIPS will look at, among other things, not updating officers’ pocketbooks, polygamy or going out of the county without permission and failure to declare a property that violates the Standing Order of the Chief of Police (PTKPN). For this case, the officer was found to have not declared his assets, therefore action was imposed on him,” he said.

In regards to the case of the escort punching the deaf e-hailing driver, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that his party is still waiting for further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Department.

“The case is being investigated according to Section 323 of the Penal Code and we are still awaiting further instructions to prosecute or improve the investigation,” he added.

Should the officer be charged, he can face a suspension from his job and if he is convicted, he can be subjected to a suspension without pay.

Tan Sri Razarudin Husain also hopes that the people will not be confused by the internal disciplinary action imposed on the escort and said that his party has never protected any PDRM officer involved in misconduct.
