A tragic road accident in Kampung Batu 1, Jalan Tanjung Tualang, Perak, claimed the lives of three family members last night (9 February).
The victims—34-year-old S. Sarala Devi, her 65-year-old mother G. Sarasbathy, and her 3-year-old daughter S. Shaastikka were travelling in a Perodua Myvi when they were struck by a Toyota Hilux.

The Hilux driver tests positive for drugs
In a recent development, the driver of the Toyota Hilux tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) during a urine screening, according to Sinar Harian.
Batu Gajah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Md Noor Aehawan Mohamad, stated that the 4WD driver was travelling from Kampar toward Bemban at approximately 9:50 PM.
Preliminary investigations suggest the Hilux driver attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding head-on with the Myvi, which was travelling from the opposite direction.
“As a result of the collision, the 34-year-old Myvi driver and the 65-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The three-year-old girl passed away later while receiving treatment at Batu Gajah Hospital,” he confirmed.

The suspect sustained only minor injuries in the incident
The Hilux driver reportedly suffered only minor injuries, including pain in his knees and hands. He has since been detained to assist with the investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Md Noor Aehawan
He also noted that a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death for the three victims.
