Malaysian road users usually obey traffic laws… most of the time at least. But when you’re rushing to get somewhere fast, many feel it doesn’t hurt to run a red light every once in a while, right?

Traffic Light

Well, according to PDRM’s latest statement, running that red light could lead to you being fined up to RM2,000 or facing a six-month jail sentence.

This latest Red Light Operation was enforced by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) after it was discovered many road users, particularly motorcyclists, do not follow traffic laws such as stopping their vehicles when the traffic light is red.

“JSPT takes this issue very seriously as this trend could lead to the occurrence of more road accidents,” said the statement that was posted on PDRM’s Facebook. “JSPT will launch Operation Red Light from 15 December to 31 December across the country to assess these traffic offenders, particularly delivery riders and motorcyclists, as well as other road users.”

“JSPT reminds all road users to be careful and always follow traffic regulations for the safety of themselves and other drivers or pedestrians around them. Road users who violate these laws will either be issued fines immediately or their vehicle information will be recorded for them to be summoned.”

The statement added that any individual found disobeying traffic laws and running red lights will be summoned a fine of not more than RM2,000 or face a jail sentence of not more than six months.

Looks like we’ll have to be more vigilant on those roads! What do you guys think of this?
