On March 22, the police arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of robbing a gold shop at a Kota Damansara supermarket, making off with RM2 million worth of jewellery.
He took seven trays of jewelry from the shop’s display rack, but was nabbed later that day while allegedly getting ready for work, according to Sinar Harian.

His RM20k debt was the main motive
Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the suspect, who works as an auxiliary police officer, had taken the gun from his workplace before robbing the gold shop.
“The suspect was seen pacing around the scene earlier that afternoon, presumably surveying the area before carrying out the crime. The robbery took about 10 minutes, and no shots were fired. However, no shots were fired. He only brandished the gun before making off with 7 trays of gold and cash from the store.”

Desperate to pay off a debt, the suspect resorted to using a firearm to rob a gold shop inside a shopping mall in Kota Damansara.
“Our findings suggest that his RM20,000 debt was the main motive. After the incident, he returned the firearm to its original place. Our investigation found that he knew the password to access and retrieve the gun,” he explained.

Suspect has been an auxiliary police officer for 8 years
Hussein added that the suspect’s supervisor and colleagues would be called in for questioning to help with the investigation.
“He was living alone, renting a place in Bukit Beruntung, and had been working as an auxiliary police officer for about 7 to 8 years. There are signs he was planning to run off to Kelantan (where his family is residing), but we caught him before he could,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded for 7 days for further investigation under Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
