The police have arrested a 44-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl following the discovery of a baby boy found in a garbage dump in Sibu, Sarawak.
According to Harian Metro, The Sibu Magistrate’s Court has ordered the man to be remanded for 6 days to assist in the investigation after the baby was discovered at Jalan Tong Sang and is believed to have been recently born.
The baby was placed in a fish storage container
The Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zulkilli Suhaili, said that the quick actions of the police during the investigation led to the arrest of the 2 suspects.
He noted that when the public found the baby at 8:30 AM on October 29th, the baby was in a weak condition and had been placed in a fish storage container.
“The baby, who weighs 1.48 kilograms, is now getting treated at Sibu Hospital and is said to be in stable condition.”
The baby was found with the placenta and umbilical cord still attached
Zulkilli stated that based on the initial investigation, the baby, found with the placenta and umbilical cord, is believed to have been born less than 24 hours prior.
He added that the police believe the case has been resolved with the arrest of the 2 suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth with the intention of abandoning the baby. If convicted, the offender could face up to 2 years in prison, a fine, or both.
