A 35-year-old man was arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after he made a death threat against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah via an Instagram Story on his Instagram account.
Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Arjunaidi confirmed that the arrest took place last night at 10:30pm at the man’s house in Kajang, in a statement shared to the Polis Selangor Facebook page.
“Research found that the video expressed dissatisfaction by the owner of the Instagram account, over the statement on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the Malaysian Prime Minister election and labeled one of the races in this country as corrupt and incited the public to hold a demonstration to protest the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the election of the candidates of Prime Minister of Malaysia,” he said.
A screenshot of the man’s Instagram Story has been going viral on social media, where he questioned the authority and threatened the safety of His Majesty, leading to outrage from the general public.
He is now being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Datuk Arjunaidi added that the police will not compromise with anyone who threatens the peace and safety of the country.
