Passenger Arriving From KL Arrested at Indian Airport with Cannabis Worth RM2.64 Million in Luggage

A passenger arriving at the Tiruchirappalli International Airport in Tamil Nadu, India, from Kuala Lumpur was arrested by local authorities on Sunday (23 March) after 5.155kg of hydroponic cannabis was found concealed in their luggage.

Taking to its official Twitter account, the Tiruchirappalli Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate revealed that the 5.155kg of cannabis is valued at approximately INR51 million or RM2.64 million.

The post added that based on specific intelligence, Trichy Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) officers recovered and seized the narcotics that were concealed in the passenger’s checked-in luggage.

Attached with the post is a photo of the luggage and at least eleven transparent and vacuum-sealed packets of cannabis that were concealed inside. 

The customs authority added that the passenger arrived at the Tiruchirappalli airport from Kuala Lumpur via AirAsia flight AK 25 and that further investigation is underway.

However, the Tiruchirappalli Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate didn’t mention the nationality of the suspect in the post.

For reference, the AirAsia AK 25 flight departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2.

As of the time of writing, the Malaysian authorities have yet to issue any statement about the incident.
