The largest wholesale market in the country, Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur recorded two Covid-19 positive cases today (2 April).

According to Malaysia Kini, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued a notice to the hawkers working at the wholesale market located in Pusat Bandar Utara, Selayang saying that the market will be closed for disinfection tomorrow (3 April) from 7.30am to 11pm.

The notice said that all stalls must be emptied and vegetables should be removed so that the sanitisation exercise won’t affect the produce.

Wong Keng Fatt, president of the Kuala Lumpur Vegetable Wholesalers Association told China Press in a telephone interview that the information was true. Two of the vegetable vendors were diagnosed with the disease last night (1 April), although the source of infection is still unknown.

However, he assured that the authorities have disinfected their booths.

“The wholesale market will be closed from 7.30am to 11pm tomorrow. It will resume operations after that. Do not panic,” he said.

He then added that DBKL had scheduled to close the market for cleaning on every first Sunday of each month. The cleaning work scheduled for 5 April will also be carried out as planned.
