The recent incident where a Kelantanese boutique owner was fined for wearing shorts in her own shop has received both support and criticism from many Malaysians. The President of PAS, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang also has a reminder for everyone when it comes to attire.
“Don’t be so liberal like senseless animals”
In his recent Facebook post titled Minda Presiden PAS, Hadi urged non-Muslims to dress modestly to protect their dignity and be respected by all religions and civilised nations. He believes that Malaysians should not be as liberal as those in the Western countries.
“They shouldn’t be so liberal that there is no shame like ‘senseless animals’, which is happening in the Western countries today.”
Hadi also said that all these while, many have been intervening with how Muslims should dress, and that some opponents of Perikatan Nasional (PN) have branded the party’s success as the “green wave movements.”
He highlighted how the ban on alcohol in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah was criticised by some of PN’s opponents when the movement was also supported by many non-Muslims in the states. Apart from that, Hadi also blamed the media for digging and exposing the state government’s weaknesses when PAS was in power, dubbing the media’s act “more terrifying than animals without intelligence.”
“Even animals know how to choose good fruits to eat.”
Over the last weekend, a boutique owner in Kelantan was fined for wearing shorts on the premise, in accordance with Section 34 of the council’s Business and Industrial Trade By-Laws 2019. The matter has since been resolved after the woman’s adoptive father paid the fine.
Do you agree with Hadi’s take on this?
