Pak Cik in Johor Slaps 21yo Non-Muslim Man for Eating in Public During Ramadan, PDRM Investigates

A non-Muslim man was recently slapped by a Pak Cik for eating publicly during Ramadan.

In a viral X post, Elijah shared his experience of being confronted by a man who asked if he was a Muslim, to which Elijah said he wasn’t. The man, however, was not satisfied with the response.

He allegedly asked Elijah to show his identification card (IC) to prove that he was indeed a non-Muslim

Elijah, who was eating at a convenience store inside a mall in Johor Bahru, refused to produce his IC. The pair argued a little before the uncle slapped Elijah, who told the uncle that he would lodge a police report if he was slapped again.

In his video, the uncle was seen slapping Elijah once, although he stated in his post that he was slapped a few times.

The uncle was with his son, and according to Elijah, his son tried to calm the situation and apologised on his father’s behalf. While Elijah accepted the apology, he couldn’t let the matter go.

“The Pak Cik disrespected me and slapped me in public. I cannot let this matter go.”

The Minister of National Unity, Aaron Ago Dagang, responded to the matter via an X post

Aaron said that Elijah had reported the matter at the Tampoi Police Station in Johor, and the matter is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

“This is a provocation that does not reflect the unity and harmony of our country.”

“Our country can only develop if we unite and respect each other. We can live peacefully without any racial tension.”

Aaron also hopes that all Malaysians can be polite while interacting with each other, and said he is strictly against any form of violence, discrimination, and prejudice that could affect the harmony in Malaysia.

In an official statement by PDRM in Johor, the police confirmed that they had received a report from the 21-year-old victim and are investigating the matter which took place on March 16.

The police also said that if found guilty, the suspect may face jail time of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000.
