Fun fairs are abundant in Malaysia. All you have to do is look up to the skies, follow the beacon of light you see in the clouds and you’ll stumble upon a fun fair. But fun fairs aren’t always fun, they can often times be dangerous.
A report by Utusan shared how simple screws from a ferris wheel endangered the lives of children who were in passenger ‘cages’.
Videos have surfaced online, of a commotion at a Jerantut fun fair, where several passenger cages of the ferris wheel came lose while there were people still inside. Staff members could be seen trying to hold onto the cages, some with children inside, as visitors and parents watched nervously.
1 parent shared how her 3 children who were on the ferris wheel could be heard screaming and crying in fear as the cage overturned.
She added that she was angry and disappointed at the management of the fun fair for not prioritising the safety of their visitors, especially the children.
Others have since also shared that the equipment installed to the ferris wheel is apparently made of scrap metal that has been used since the 1990s and is in poor condition.
“The people of Jerantut should not go to fun fairs which is a waste of money and is dangerous and the residents are still not happy.”
“(It is) proven that the fun fair is not maintained properly, even (the equipment) is old and rusty. The operators do not know and do not want to be responsible“, shared Chairman of the Universal Charity Welfare Organisation, Mohd Nor Izzat Mohd Johari.
