A video of a woman belly dancing in revealing attire recently went viral, sparking backlash for going against regulations in Kelantan.
Kelantan’s Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment Committee Chairman, Hilmi Abdullah, said the state government is still waiting for a full report from the Tanah Merah District Council about the incident.
The organiser was slapped with an RM10,000 fine
Following the incident, the organiser of a mining company’s dinner in Kelantan was hit with an RM10,000 fine for performing the belly dance performance at the event.
Berita Harian reported that Hilmi Abdullah said the RM10,000 fine was paid to the Tanah Merah District Council (MDTM) yesterday (December 24).
He shared that the organiser sent a letter of apology to the state government and local authorities (PBT) for the violation.
“They also signed an agreement with the local authorities, promising to consult them first before organising any future events,” he said.
“Event organisers urged to send their applications early”
Hilmi also mentioned that starting January 1, 2025, the fine for these kinds of offences will go up to RM50,000. This comes after the Kelantan State Assembly approved the 2024 Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment, which brings in stricter rules and licensing requirements.
He reminded anyone planning to organise entertainment events, whether individuals or companies, to send in their applications early. This helps with the review process and makes it easier to avoid breaking any rules.
The fine was issued under Section 6 of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment 1998.
