Year after year, more burger chains are popping up to satisfy Malaysian’s craving for burgers, especially for dinner or suppertime. However, it’s safe to say that as Malaysians, we can agree that nothing beats the roadside burger.

They’re not just tasty, but you get to customise your burger at an affordable price. However, for this Facebook user, she recently shared her experience of purchasing burgers from a roadside stall at a high price. According to her post, she bought two Burger Ayam Special from a stall behind one of the Maybank branches in Kepong.

However, when paying for the burgers, the total damage came about to a whopping RM23!

“I triple-confirmed with the vendor and she told me this is the price for Burger Ayam Special,” the woman clarified.

“McD has cheaper burgers”

It did not take long for her post about the overpriced burgers to go viral online and fellow Malaysians had a lot to say about the price, with many comparing the prices of the same burger at their respective locales.

Expectedly, some people expressed their surprise at the price of the burgers and one of them said even McDonald’s sells cheaper burgers.

“Double special costs me only RM7.50. An extra RM1 for an additional cheese slice.”

“It costs me RM4.50 here, the price at your place is pretty ridiculous.”

A user has also said that it’s impossible to find a burger that costs only RM2.50 nowadays.

“RM23 is even pricier than McDonald’s.”

It’s all about the branding

On the other hand, ‘burger enthusiasts’ who recognise the brand have since commented and cleared up the issue of the overpriced burgers, citing that the brand – Otai, is known for its high price.

“Otai brand has always been expensive,” reaffirms one netizen.

Fellow burger lovers, if the burger is tasty and well-known, would you have paid RM23 for two burgers you purchased from the roadside? Does the price hike in goods justify the current price of the roadside burgers?
