Durian fans in the house, listen up!
Thanks to the good weather which has resulted in a great harvest, the durian supply in Malaysia has exceeded the already crazy demand for the King of Fruits. Thanks to this, sellers have been able to bring down the prices of durian to just – wait for it – RM1 per fruit! Omg, so cheap! Durian buffet, jom?
With the super slashed down prices, these sellers are hoping to entice durian fans to buy them before the thorny fruit goes bad.
In an interview with Bernama, Aizawati Abdul Latib, who is a durian seller in Kulim stated that it does not take long for the RM1 durians to be sold out. She said that people would start queuing up in the morning although the sale only starts at 3pm and within 15 minutes, the fruits will be gone! Wah, so fast finish. Must go early wei!
“Despite their size, these durians are good and tasty, everyone can eat them,” she added.
Another seller in Butterworth told The Star that this has been the longest durian season in northern Malaysia. “The wholesalers are sending us durian twice a day. We are now desperate to sell as fast as we can because we are committed to take their stock daily,” he said.
Earlier in March, the price of Musang King was slashed from RM125 per kg last year to only RM50 and RM65 per kg this year. Meanwhile, other varieties only saw a minor drop in prices.
So, durian fans out there, let’s take advantage of this “durian runtuh” season (quite literally!) and eat to our heart’s content!
