Foodies, this is for you but heads up, you need a strong stomach to go through these lists of “exotic” food found at this local stall. How much are you willing to go when it comes to trying something new and different? (And bizarre, if we may)
Night market is 1 of the best places for Malaysians to hunt for cheap and tasty street food. The Facebook page Join Me Live Mall recently shared a “hidden gem” at Sutera Night Market in Johor Bahru, and it’s not something you would expect to find, certainly not something you would want to munch on. However, if you’re in the mood for some exotic snacks, allow us to present to you…
Lizard, bamboo worms, scorpions, crickets, silkworm chrysalis, earthworm and many more bugs that you probably have never expected to find “lurking” in a night market, waiting to be eaten by the customers.
And yes, they’re meant to be eaten! They’ve been cooked and if you’re expecting the stall to be some kind of “pet shop”, you might as well just turn around and never look back.
The prices vary and for instance, the lizards come in 3 different sizes – small, medium and large, and they’re priced at RM25, RM30, and RM35 respectively.
Scorpions, too, come in 3 different sizes, similar to the creepy crawlies but they’re sold at a cheaper price – RM5, RM10, RM15, depending on the sizes (and your appetite, as well as how much you can stomach).
According to another Facebook post in the group Sutera 五福城大小事 , the event, known as Chill Day Night Market is only operational until September 3, 2023. The Chill Day Night Market has been opened to public since August 25. The exotic stall is located within the Thai Food area and if you’re planning to visit, don’t worry about having lizards, scorpions or the bugs as your only options.
There are hundreds of different stalls that sell pastries and different kind of foods to the visitors!
To our friends in JB, have you visited the Chill Day Night Market? As for the others, do you plan to visit the market before the end of the event this coming weekend?
