There’s a new attraction that’s just opened in Penang and it’s located right at the top of Penang Hill! You may have already heard about The Habitat, a world-class eco-tourism facility that was first opened in 2016. This place is meant to bring you closer to nature with their facilities that promote environmental consciousness and conservation awareness tourism.

If you haven’t been there yet, now is a great time for you to go and visit Mother Nature as the new world-class Stressed Ribbon Bridge has officially opened to the public on January 19, so it’s time to plan a road trip! The opening of the canopy walk was officiated by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and it is one of the latest addition to the enchanting rainforest experience.

The two-span bridge is said to be the first of its kind in the world and is also the only one built amongst the tree top canopy of a tropical rainforest. Named the Langur Way Canopy Walk, the bridge is part of the Habitat’s Phase Two construction, so we can expect more attractions to be built among the 130-million year old virgin rainforest.

You might need to conquer your fear of heights if you want to visit the bridge as it is located 700 metres above sea level, which makes it the highest Stressed Ribbon Bridge in the world. It looks really cool! The entire Canopy Walk spans a total of 230 metres, with the first 115 metres opened first while the other half will be opened later on.

It’s also strong enough to accommodate 900 people who weigh about 90kg each and is meant to be a fun family activity. It’s designed to be stroller- and wheelchair-friendly too, so you can bring your friends and family to enjoy Mother Nature at its finest.

Amazingly, the Canopy Walk was constructed without the use of heavy machinery and none of the steel cables used are rigged directly to the trees, to preserve the majestic trees. The Habitat has many other gorgeous attractions as well such as the Tree Top Walk, Nature Trail and many beautiful gardens to explore.

If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, Phase Three is expected to be completed later this year, which will consist of The Habitat Aerial or Zip-Lines that offers an 880-metre adrenaline rush down the hill. Sounds like fun!

Address: The Habitat Penang Hill, Bukit Bendera, 11300 Penang, Malaysia

Opening hours: 9am to 7pm daily

Time to check it out if you haven’t already!
