Hannah Yeoh: National Hockey Player Will Be Investigated for Racist Comment on AR Rahman’s Concert
Indian musical composer, A. R. Rahman, wowed Malaysians at his concert held at Stadium Bukit Jalil on Saturday (January 28) but sadly, there’s racism in the air following the event.
One of the people who received backlash for making a racist remark in regards to the concert is national hockey player, Hanis Onn. She wrote a comment on Instagram, “The smell must have been the best in there”, indicating that Indians are ‘smelly’.
She has since apologised on her Instagram account and has made her profile private.
In regards to this, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has announced that the National Sports Council (MSN) will be launching an investigation into this matter.
“I have asked the National Sports Council, MSN, to investigate this matter and get more information from the Malaysian Hockey Confederation and after I get the opinion from MSN, we will make a decision.”
“So, today, MSN will discuss this with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation. I have informed Dato’ Sri Subahan (President of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation) as well,” she shared during the sports industry townhall media conference today (January 31).
You can check out Yeoh’s response to the matter here (12:40 onwards):
