Siti Bainun, the founder of welfare home, Rumah Bonda who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for abusing a down syndrome teenager, Bella, will be represented by lawyer Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik in her appeal against her conviction.

The famous lawyer also represented Sam Ke Ting for reckless driving that killed 18 cyclists in 2017 as well as ex-PM, Najib Razak in the past, and now will be leading the team of lawyers for Siti Bainun’s counsel.

The defence team of Siti Bainun cited her health conditions as a reason for filing a certificate of urgency to speed up the appeal hearing against the Sessions Court’s decision that denied her request for a stay of execution on May 3rd.

Just last Wednesday the Sessions Court Judge, Izralizam Sanusi found Siti Bainun guilty of two charges of negligence and abuse by causing Bella physical and psychological harm and sentenced her to serve 12 years in jail immediately but this was not carried as she filed for appeal.

Her sentence also included 200 hours of community service as well as a five-year good behaviour bond, with a local as a guarantor, and a surety of RM5,000.

The court hearing for Siti Bainun’s stay of execution appeal is set for May 18th.
