Following the tragic incident in Penang where a 21-year-old woman had lost her life after a container overturned at a traffic light and crushed her car, it appears that she managed to make a phone call before passing away.
According to a report by China Press, the victim, Lee Zi Rou, apparently used the last of her strength to call her mother, telling her that she was in pain from the accident.
Her 42-year-old mother, Lim, said that her daughter only managed to say one sentence before shouting and then going silent. The sentence was, “Mummy, it hurts so much”.
“I asked my daughter where she was, but there was no response. I knew in my heart that something had happened,” Lim explained.
The phone call then got disconnected, leading Lim to attempt to call her daughter back but to no avail; no one picked up. Knowing her daughter’s route to work, Lim continued to call her phone while taking the route to search for her daughter.
“I then followed my daughter’s daily route to work and called her while I was searching. Later, a man answered the phone and told me where my daughter was and that a container was crushing her,” Lim added.
It was at this point where Lim, as well as her other children, had burst into tears as she recounted her daughter’s last moments.
Lim went on to share that she rushed to the scene upon finding out her daughter’s location, but when she arrived, her daughter was already gone.
“I saw her in the car. I kept begging people to save my daughter, but they couldn’t move (the container).”
It was then revealed to her, by the man who answered her call to her daughter’s phone, that the victim had died after her initial call to her mother.
“I’m really heartbroken that my daughter couldn’t be saved. I almost suffocated at the scene of the incident. I still hear my daughter’s last words before her death, ‘Mummy, it hurts so much’, I can’t let it go. These were my daughter’s last words,”
“For a moment, I thought that my daughter would be rescued because she still managed to call me.”
Having told her children to message her for non-urgent matters, receiving a phone call from her daughter caused her to realise something terrible had happened.
“As soon as I received that call from my daughter, I was scared,” she added.
Our sincerest condolences to Lim, her family and loved ones during this trying time.
