21yo Woman Dies in Freak Accident After Container Overturns & Crushes Her Car at Penang Traffic Light

A young woman lost her life while a man was injured after the vehicles they were in were hit and crushed by a container that fell off a trailer at Jalan Bukit Tengah, Penang, this morning (November 13) at 9.16am.

The young woman, 21-year-old Lee Zi Rou, had died at the scene of the accident due to serious injuries.

According to a report by Harian Metro, Bandar Perda Fire and Rescue (BBP) Operations Commander, Mohd Nor Azamuddin Abdullah shared that his team rushed over upon receiving a call about the accident.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the accident involved 5 vehicles, namely 3 cars and 2 lorries including the trailer. There were 2 victims trapped due to the container overturning,”

“The 25-year-old male victim was removed (from his vehicle) by members of the public before the arrival of the fire department and was taken to a hospital for treatment. As for the female victim who was trapped, we used special equipment to remove her,” he said.

 

Unfortunately, she could not be saved and was confirmed dead by medical personnel at the scene.

“The body was handed over to the police for further action,”

“The fire brigade then carried out work to remove the fallen container using 2 cranes before completing the operation.” he added.

 

Earlier, several videos and photos of the accident had gone viral online, which showed the trailer taking a sharp turn at the Jalan Persekutuan traffic light intersection in Bukit Tengah, before the container the trailer was carrying overturned and hit several vehicles at the traffic light.
