Char kuey teow is definitely one of Malaysia’s most popular dishes, but only a few restaurants know how to get this seemingly simple dish just right!
Many char kuey teow lovers who frequent stalls around Kelana Jaya have definitely heard of this famous stall in the Jamal Mohamed Restaurant along Jalan SS5A/9 (previously known as Subang Ria), which is located right next to the Football Association of Malaysia building.
Known affectionately as ‘Aunty Gemok’, this lady’s stall had served up delicious Halal Penang style char kuey teow to countless loyal customers for decades. However, news recently surfaced that the famous cook has sadly passed away, according to the New Straits Times.

Aunty Gemuk is a local legend. Totally transformed Restoran Jamal Mohamed aka FAM. Just 5 mins from my office. Over the years I have gravitated to Subang Ria more, but yes, CKT Aunty Gemuk will always be special. RIP Aunty. pic.twitter.com/KwVukLTVCv
