It’s officially Raya season, and Malaysians everywhere are celebrating the festive season in their own unique ways.

One interesting way some people are celebrating this season, however, has been getting a lot of attention on social media for all the right reasons.

Last Friday (7th June), Twitter user Amin Jamean shared a video of himself giving a duit raya packet to a Starbucks barista after receiving his drink. The barista initially looked taken aback but was clearly grateful for the unexpected gift. He didn’t stop there, either, as another video showed him giving duit raya to two more employees at a petrol station!

Inspired by the posts, other Malaysians joined in and shared videos and stories of people spreading the Hari Raya joy.

Workers who received duit raya from kind customers also shared their heartwarming stories.

“On the first day of Raya, there was one customer who asked me when I was heading home. I told him that the shop would close later. He then wished me ‘Selamat Hari Raya‘, gave me RM10 and left. I hope that the customer sees this Tweet because I was not able to tell him thank you in time.”

Another netizen who works at an ice cream shop shared in a tweet that translates to,

“Earlier, there was a family that came in but the child was restless and crying because I assume he was tired from travelling, so I decided to give the child a scoop of ice cream free of charge, and he stopped crying. When it was their time to pay, the parents gave me duit raya that was worth much more than the scoop of ice cream cost.”

What a heartwarming gesture! Have you encountered inspiring stories this Raya? Let us know in the comments section!
