There are many Malaysians overseas and their location does not stop them from carrying out their duty as a citizen to vote in the state elections.
According to BERNAMA, 1thirdmedia Movement, one of the parties who are working with UNDI18, was collecting postal votes from the Malaysians who are working/residing/studying in Singapore since 5 August.
A volunteer, Farrah Diyana Mohamad Ali said that they used the same strategy they did during GE15 for the state elections this time which is to set up 5 collection zones to cover the different areas of Singapore.
The postal votes were delivered in 2 waves to the sorting centre in Kuala Lumpur: 1,494 votes were dispatched on 9 August and 1,511 votes were dispatched on 11 August.
Other than that, UNDI18 programme coordinator Diffan Sina Jasmi said that they began receiving postal votes from the beginning of August from Malaysians in Southeast Asia.
Out of the 7,972 overseas postal ballot papers announced by the Election Commission (EC), they were able to help collect 43.8% or 3,495 postal votes, reported BERNAMA.
“So far, the highest number of ballot papers successfully collected is for Selangor, which is 1,887, followed by Penang (1,009), Kedah (281), Negeri Sembilan (195), Kelantan (63) and Terengganu (60).”
We would like to commend UNDI18 and the other collaborating volunteers who made voting in time possible for Malaysians who are overseas!
If you are a registered voter in the 6 states, don’t forget to go and do your civic duty of voting!
