There’s always been a debate on just how much a teacher is allowed to discipline or punish a student. From caning to being made to stand outside in the corridors, parents have accepted such punishment methods for years.

But, what if a teacher slaps your child, especially in a public setting?

Teacher, Mohd Fadli Salleh, took to his Facebook page to showcase a screenshot from a video of a teacher slapping a student in the middle of a ceremony taking place at their school. And this took place right at the podium by the stage, in front of everyone present.

Teacher 1

He wrote, “A ceremony is taking place. Students, teachers (and maybe some outside visitors) have filled the hall, and a teacher went and slapped a student at the front. What did the boy do that is so wrong, that the teacher couldn’t wait until after the ceremony to discipline him?”

“Looking at the situation, the student might be the emcee of the ceremony.”

He went on to caution the teacher to be smarter in this day and age where smartphones are everywhere and recording everything.

“Nowadays, people can record everything that happens before their eyes. When it is shared, it becomes viral. The internet is full of people who will condemn teachers.”

“We want people to respect us, but our actions make people angry and lose respect for us. Look at what has happened now. I hope this case is settled properly. And I hope things like this won’t happen again in the future,” he shared.

Teacher 2

He went on to explain that teachers should learn to control their emotions.

“No matter how angry you are, control your emotions in front of a hall full of audience members. This ceremony was attended by government representatives, police officers and TNB. It’s just that when it happened, it is unsure whether the visitors had arrived yet.”

“Even if the student is young, they have their dignity and feelings.”

It was also revealed that the student received the slap because he was allegedly being unruly during the national anthem.

Do you think the student deserved to be slapped in such a public setting over his actions or was the teacher wrong?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
