A Malaysian woman shared how her mother-in-law has helped her heal from a harmful pattern in her childhood by showing her true maternal love.
According to a post on the MamaClub Facebook page, the woman anonymously shared how her mother-in-law had always kept 2 chicken drumsticks for her for dinner.
She wrote, “After getting married, I have always lived with my mother-in-law. Every day, she would take care of the 3 meals for the whole family. However, because I get off work late, my mother-in-law would save some food for me and they would eat first.”
“As long as she cooked chicken that day, there would be 2 chicken drumsticks for my dinner.”
The woman initially thought that her parents-in-law were keeping the chicken drumsticks for her because they didn’t like that part of the chicken, which brought her joy because she loved chicken drumsticks.
But, she then found out the truth.
“Later, I learned that my husband had told my mother-in-law a long time ago that I didn’t have many opportunities to eat chicken drumsticks when I was a child,” she said.
It turns out that the woman had lost her parents in a car accident when she was just 4 years old. She then moved into a relative’s house where she wasn’t treated like a part of the family.
“At that time, every time they cooked chicken at home, my aunty would immediately share the chicken drumsticks with her 2 children. And I, as an outsider, never got a share and could only watch as they ate it,”
“Because I could never eat chicken drumsticks when I was a child, I became particularly obsessed with chicken drumsticks when I grew up. Whether it was chicken rice, fried chicken or roasted chicken, as long as I could choose, I would definitely choose the drumsticks,” she added.
Her mother-in-law found out that she knew the truth and said something that touched her heart.
“It doesn’t matter if you couldn’t eat (chicken drumsticks) when you were a child. In our family, you can eat as many (chicken drumsticks) as you want!” the mother-in-law told her.
On top of that, since she became pregnant, her mother-in-law has been making various types of soups for her and included chicken drumsticks in them!
“I really feel lucky to have met such a good mother-in-law! She treats me like her own daughter. In addition to making up for the heartbreak of not being able to eat chicken drumsticks when I was a child, she also made up for the maternal love that I had lost for almost 30 years,”
“In short, I’m really thankful for her.”
We’re so happy that she has found where she belongs.
