As paying customers, we want our goods to be in perfect condition and we can always check the packages to see if we are satisfied with the goods. With CNY just a few days away, the supply and demand for Mandarin oranges are at their peak.

Sometimes, we just don’t have the time to go through every box to look for spoiled ones. An employee of 99 Speedmart, however, recently got praised by a Malaysian customer for making sure he did not bring home any spoiled mandarin oranges. In a Facebook post by Johan Irwan Kamarozaman, he was shocked by the efficiency of the staff.

“She asked for my permission to unbox the mandarin oranges at the counter. She wanted to check if there were any spoiled ones.”

Those who have restocked boxes of mandarin oranges at home can relate to this, where a few of the fruits will be spoiled and inedible. And since the inedible fruits are often spotted at home after the purchase, they’re not refundable.

In Johan’s case, however, he has yet to pay for his fruits, and the staff happened to spot 1 spoiled mandarin orange.

In return, the staff replaced the spoiled fruit with a new, edible one. It takes some time to go through the fruits one by one but a customer’s satisfaction is always priceless! Johan is undoubtedly a happy customer.

“I salute the staff of 99 Speedmart for her initiative in checking the condition of the fruits. Kudos to team 99 Speedmart!”

Johan also shared a tip to identify if there is a possible “rotten fruit” in the box – check the bottom of the box. If it’s watery, one or two of the fruits may have gone bad.

Do you think all places should start practicing the same SOPs before customers pay for their Mandarin oranges?
