A fire caused an estimated RM1.6 million in damages after four unidentified men set a house and five luxury cars ablaze in Kuala Langat.

The fire also affected two adjacent units, with approximately 10% and 5% of each unit damaged. Meanwhile, five vehicles belonging to a couple and parked in front of the terrace house were nearly destroyed, with 90% of each vehicle burned.

“The motive wasn’t related to loan sharks”

According to Kwong Wah, Kuala Langat police chief Akmalrizal Radzi said the owner of the vehicle, a paralegal at a law firm in Klang, was fortunately not home with his family at the time of the incident.

“The fire spread rapidly, causing extensive damage to the front of the house and several luxury cars parked outside. Losses are estimated at RM1.6 million,” he said.

He also noted that the incident took place in a guarded residential area, and the suspects had entered the premises “openly” to carry out the act.

“Initial investigations suggest the motive was likely a personal dispute and not related to loan sharks,” he added.

The public is urged not to speculate

Akmalrizal added that police are actively tracking down those involved and urged the public not to spread unverified information, as it could disrupt the progress of the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

He also called on anyone with information about the case to contact the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters operations room at 03-3187 2222.
