Recently, a Malaysian model was unexpectedly thrown into the spotlight after one of her TikTok videos was used and edited to promote MIC and ask people to vote for Barisan Nasional (BN).
The video which was of Malaysian actress and model Gayathri Moorthi dancing whilst wearing a saree, was doctored by irresponsible groups who added in a MIC logo to the top whilst also asking for voters to support BN.
Gayathri herself recently took to TikTok to explain her side of the story and to clarify that she has nothing to do with politics or political parties.
The model and local drama actress for the last 15 years, said it was unbecoming of them to turn her video clip made for the Ugadi (Telegu new year) festival a few months ago into a political campaign.
“I don’t belong to any political party and don’t want to be a member of one. I am a professional model and actress and no one should doctor my TikTok video clips for nefarious activities such as this.”
“I also don’t find the clip to be sensual as claimed,” she added.
She also said that the perpetrators have tarnished her reputation and have unnecessarily dragged her into politics.
Meanwhile, MIC president SA Vigneswaran has said that Gayathri’s video which was deemed sexy by some social media users, is not an MIC member and the party would be foolish to carry out an election campaign in such a manner.
“It is an insult to our intelligence if our members resort to this. Obviously, this is an attempt by our enemies to smear us with this TikTok clip. I don’t wish to name anyone blindly but to resort to this cheap tactic only shows it could be our political rivals.”
Vigneswaran said while the woman may not be responsible for the MIC and BN logos, it must have been made by the party’s rivals as the 15th general election (GE15) is around the corner.
“MIC will not resort to such cheap publicity campaigns and dirty tactics. At stake in GE15 is the future of our nation and the people’s wellbeing. We are working hard to defend our community and help uplift them. We don’t indulge in this kind of rubbish,” he said.
We hope that it has all been clarified!
