A Malaysian woman was left shocked upon discovering that her pet kitten, whom she had taken care of for 2 months, had allegedly been killed by children from her neighbourhood.
Taking to her Threads account, @shahjihanshah shared how she and her husband had initially thought that the kitten, named Jojo, had lost its way, so they went searching for it around their neighbourhood. After not finding Jojo, they checked their CCTV recordings and found that 3 children had taken the kitten through their house gate at about 10pm the night before.
She wrote, “There are 3 children from the house in front, 2 girls and a boy. The video is quite long as they came by 3 times. The first time, they came by to see if there was anyone at the front of the house. The second time they came by, they took Jojo. They just pulled it by its leg.”
“The third time, they came to take another cat. But, because that cat is a grown-up, it knows to run into the house if it doesn’t recognise people. We went around the neighbourhood looking for Jojo. We asked neighbours if they knew the children. We searched behind houses.”
With hearts set on getting the kitten back, @shahjihanshah’s family posted the CCTV footage in their neighbourhood WhatsApp group to ask if anyone knew the children and requested that the kitten be returned to them.
When someone from the group chat informed them which house the children lived in, they quickly went to the house to ask for the kitten, but they did not expect what was about to happen next.
Her kitten was allegedly trapped in a container and suffocated
It was discovered that Jojo had died, apparently due to being tortured by being sealed in a container to suffocate. There was also another kitten that was found dead alongside Jojo.
“I cannot accept that my kitten died by torture. It was placed in a closed container, there was no air for it to breathe.”
She also went on to question what the children were even doing outside at that time of night, without adult supervision.
“To those who have children, please keep an eye on your kids. This incident happened at around 10pm. What were these kids doing wandering around people’s houses at night?” she asked while adding that her kitten has never bothered anyone to deserve such a fate.
A police report has been lodged
@shahjihanshah has since made a police report regarding this incident, and police officers have taken Jojo’s carcass to their veterinary department for further investigations.
The children’s parents have also reached out to @shahjihanshah, requesting to discuss the situation, but she has chosen not to meet up with them after reporting the incident to the police.
However, the children’s mother did explain how her kids ended up outside at that time of night.
“Their mother said she had gone to bed early that night. She did not know at all that her children had gone out of their home, as they left through the kitchen door. Their father did not respond.”
