A Malaysian mother took to social media to share how her daughter, Hani, had injured her hand just by holding onto railings at a recreational area in Lumut, Perak.
The mum, Fazilah Rahman, took to her Facebook page to explain how her daughter’s hands were pierced by fine pieces of broken glass fibre from the railings at Dataran Lumut Waterfront.

She wrote, “I merely wanted to bring my kids out to get some fresh air and listen to people busking. Suddenly, Hani complained that her palms hurt after placing them on a nearby iron railing. At first, I pretended like nothing happened. But, she kept saying that it hurt.”
“When I asked if it was painful or itchy, she said it was painful.”
Fazilah proceeded to examine her daughter’s palms, which according to her daughter was painful to the touch.

“Her father said that maybe the iron railing had rusted, as it is by the sea. I wasn’t satisfied and went to take a look at the iron railing. It turns out that it’s glass fibre! The fine glass fibre had gotten onto her hands. No wonder she said her hands hurt!”
She then took her kids home, where she managed to get the fine pieces of broken glass fibre out of her daughter’s hands based on tips she received from other social media users.
The Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) has since closed off the railings to be replaced.

Taking to their Facebook page, they wrote, “Referring to the issue that went viral on social media recently, MPM has taken immediate action by closing the railings area around Dataran Lumut using warning tape as a safety measure.”
“The railings are currently in an unsafe condition and pose a risk of injury. This situation is due to the lifespan of the material, exposure to salt water due to the location near the sea and weather factors. The removal and replacement of the fence will be carried out in the near future to ensure the safety of visitors in the area.”
They further advised the public not to approach or touch the railings until they were replaced.
