One thing many Malaysians fail to realise is that abuse is not limited to just hitting someone. Abuse can also include mistreating the person, yelling profanities and even manipulating their emotions.

One father went too far with his own 5-year-old child when he made the kid stand outside in the scorching sun at 3pm, barefooted!

This caused the child’s feet to burn from the super hot tarred road.

The incident took place outside their home in Batu 2, Bukit Palah, Melaka on July 24, 2017, NST reported. The father, Muhamad Faisal Salam, 31, was caught and charged in court for the abuse.

The charge is under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a maximum fine of RM50,000, or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both if the defendant is found guilty.

However, the dispatch rider pleaded NOT guilty for this charge. There was no explanation as to why he made his son stand out there in the first place.

Due to the severity of the child’s injury, the deputy public prosecutor, Shazreen Nadia Saaban, did not offer bail to the father.

However, Muhamad Faisal’s lawyers, Ishak Kari and Mohd Faiezad Razali, asked the judge for leniency by allowing a minimum bail.

This is because Muhamad Faisal doesn’t earn much, yet has got many responsibilities to shoulder.

“My client is only earning an income of RM1,500 a month and have to support three children.

“He also has to take care of his ailing father, aged 71, and his brother-in-law who has walking disability.”

And so, the judge set the bail at RM20,000 and fixed September 5, 2017 as the mention date.

Some netizens felt that the father deserved it and found it to be a good lesson for him. Meanwhile, others found the punishment to be too harsh because who would be supporting the family while he served his sentence?

What do you think about this case?
