M’sian Fails Drift Attempt With His Toyota Supra & Crashes into Parked Car in Batu Pahat, Gets Arrested

A viral video has been circulating on social media recently, showing an owner of a silver Toyota Supra driving dangerously and doing ‘drifts’ at a parking lot in Batu Pahat, Johor.

However, the driver lost control of his car in the middle of a drift attempt and ended up crashing into a four-wheel-drive vehicle parked nearby.

Afterwards, passersby and those in the vicinity can be seen gathering around the accident site to check on the driver and the damages that occurred from the incident.

Batu Pahat District Police came across the video and investigated the incident

The original poster of the video is unknown but the footage was reposted on many public social media groups and accounts, further making it go viral. In fact, even the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) came across the video.

At 12pm yesterday (21 February), the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) of the Batu Pahat District Police took note of the video and began looking into the incident.

In a statement, the Batu Pahat District Police said that the initial investigation identified the incident as having taken place at 12.15am on 20 February at Jalan Desa Botani 1, Taman Desa Botani in Batu Pahat, Johor. 

 

 

The driver was identified and arrested

After further investigations, the police were able to successfully determine the identity of the driver and car involved in the incident. 

At 1.15pm yesterday, Batu Pahat District Police JSPT arrested the driver, a local man in his 20s. The statement further asserted that a urine test on the driver turned out negative.

The Batu Pahat District Police added that the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous and reckless driving.

Should he be convicted under this provision, the man may face up to 5 years in jail and a fine between RM5,000 to RM15,000.

The Batu Pahat District Police will also apply for an extension of the remand period for the suspect from the Batu Pahat Magistrate Court today as per Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigations.
