Sexual harassment cases are on the rise in Malaysia. Harassment takes various forms and varies from one case to another.
In a recent viral story circulating online, @farisabshar shares an incident involving his girlfriend and a stranger during the train journey from Bukit Bintang to Bandar Utama.
Faris shared how he and his girlfriend were on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and noticed a man appearing to take pictures of his girlfriend. Upon reaching Bandar Utama station, Faris confronted the man while he was topping up his TouchNGo card.
He took the man to the counter and informed the MRT staff, expressing his concern that the man had been taking pictures of his girlfriend. It was later confirmed that Faris’ suspicions were correct.
As they looked through the man’s gallery, they were shocked to find not just pictures of his girlfriend but also inappropriate images of other women. The MRT quickly called Polis Bantuan (PB), and the case was handed over to Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM).
“Before anything, the guy tried apologising to me. But I was not having it. When questioned by the PDRM, he said that he just got let off from work so he was not in the right state of mind.”
He also mentioned that afterward, they went to Mutiara Damansara Police Station to file a formal report.
Faris mentioned that after filing the report, the Investigation Officer, or Sergeant, arrived to look into the matter. It seems the case couldn’t proceed due to insufficient evidence of a motive. Faris then decided the best course of action was to delete the photos from his phone.
He describes how they searched his phone thoroughly for any other possible locations where the photos might be hidden. His girlfriend also took the chance to express her anger toward the man for his actions.
“I was disgusted to see that a married 49-year-old man with kids has his Telegram filled with porn.”
Faris went on to explain that the individual made a second attempt to apologise, saying,
“Forgive me, but I understand if you choose not to.”
Faris then expressed his anger and mentioned how the 49-year-old had pushed his patience to its limit. He and his girlfriend left as the police continued their investigation, gathering the man’s information and entering it into their system. This way, if the man repeats such behavior, PDRM can take appropriate action against him.
Faris further explained how his girlfriend is now traumatised by what happened, especially considering she relies on public transport to get around.
“The man has a wife and kids, he should feel ashamed of himself. Doesn’t he have any sense of guilt?”
Faris concluded the thread by expressing gratitude to the MRT staff for their prompt action, along with a piece of advice,
“To all the fathers, husbands, boyfriends, brothers, and men out there, please be aware of your surroundings. If something feels suspicious, be sure to take immediate action.”

Kudos to the MRT staff and PDRM for treating the issue seriously. Hopefully, this can encourage other women to speak up if they ever face similar situations.
