In a recent viral TikTok video, a Malaysian Malay babysitter (@nanasalim_ns) is seen to be looking after an adorable Indian toddler, caringly.
The heartwarming video has garnered over 1 million views and over 73.9k likes and shows the cute toddler enjoying her meal time with her babysitter while an uplifting trending song plays.
The text on the video writes, “Indian family has trusted me to take care of their baby girl, it’s fun taking care of her even though we communicate like a duck and a chicken as Shika doesn’t understand Malay and I don’t understand Tamil“.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the babysitter, Nana Salim told us that she has only been taking care of the 3 year old girl named Trishika, or Shika, for 4 days. Being the responsible babysitter that Nana is, she obtained prior permission from Shika’s parents first before posting the TikTok videos.
Nana told us that she got the job offer after making a Facebook post calling for anyone who was in need of a babysitter.
Following that, it was Trishika’s aunt who reached out to Nana asking if she would be willing to look after an Indian toddler to which Nana said “Of course I can! I love all kids no matter their race or religion”.
Despite the two having a somewhat restricted language barrier, they are still able to communicate roughly in English.
“Shika understands a bit of English, so I talk to her in English and at the same time I teach her a bit of the Malay language”, said Nana.
When asked by WORLD OF BUZZ if she had any advice to babysitters in Malaysia, Nana said “care and love the kids as best as you can, this is the trust that’s been bestowed on you from the children’s parents. Kids need love from their babysitters, no matter their race or religion. To me, they are all the same. I love all the kids I babysit.”

In a world that often feels divided, this video is a wholesome reminder of the beauty that can exist in our differences and the power of love that brings us together.
We hope Nana and Shika continue to grow their special bond together that transcends language and race.
