One of the most fundamental instruments to a child’s success is their parents, and none will want better for them or their future than the people who brought them into this world.
Celebrating the launch of furniture retailer IKEA’s AFTONSPARV space-themed collection, Malaysia’s very first astronaut Dato Dr Sheikh Muszaphar, in collaboration with the brand, embarked on a nationwide tour to inspire budding space enthusiasts for the launch.
However, a recent clip taken of the astronaut at IKEA Cheras during the tour has been making waves online after he discussed a very personal matter pertaining to his children. Shared by Malaysian live stream host Lily Shah to her TikTok page @mamashark.my, who was at the event, Dr Sheikh mentioned how he uses the power of visualisation to encourage his children to pursue successful careers.
In the 20-second clip, Dr Sheikh stated that he wants all seven of his children to become doctors in the future. To aid their interests, Dr Sheikh elaborated on how he encourages each child by telling them to write this intention on their walls so they can read it when they wake up in the morning.
“I want to become a doctor, I want to become a scientist, I want to become an engineer; read it out loud every single day and that dream will become a reality. This is called the power of visualisation,” said Dr Sheikh in the video.
Garnering a fairly polarising view, a number of Malaysians were not in favour of Dr Sheikh’s method of encouraging his kids.
Others understood that while Dr Sheikh definitely has good intentions for his kids, wondered if he was taking their own dreams into consideration.
Nevertheless, some users also related to Dr Sheikh’s sentiment, saying that while they understand that their children will hold onto their own dreams, it is important for parents to guide them in making the right decisions on their way to success.
