Of the 12,000 Malaysians that have been quarantined so far, none of them have tested positive for Covid-19, according to the Health Ministry.

However, Health DG, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they would have to wait 14 days before we can determine whether we’re in the clear.

“We have to wait for 14 days and we will conduct a test on the 13th day,” said Dr Noor Hisham during a press conference held yesterday (12th April), as reported by the Star.

All Malaysians returning from abroad are subjected to a 14-day quarantine period at designated centres such as hotels and public training institutes. Previously, the Ministry of Health expressed their concern about imported Covid-19 cases from returning locals who could possibly be carriers of the virus, as seen by example from our neighbouring Southeast Asian countries.

As a measure to counter this possible spread, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri issued an order that made all Malaysians travelling back to the country subject to a two week quarantine from 3rd April onwards. While those returning with no symptoms were placed in the allocated centres, others who displayed symptoms of possibly having the virus were quarantined in hospitals.

We remain cautiously hopeful about this development. It could be a sign that things are slowly getting better!
