The Ministry of Health (MOH) has stopped the sale of a popular China-based cosmetics brand’s products after its marketing campaign violated Malaysian laws.
According to a report by New Straits Times, MOH’s move comes after the company, in a series of advertisements on social media, claimed that its products are edible.
Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, shared that the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) has also sent a notice requesting the brand to issue an explanation over their suggestion that their products can be eaten.

Among the advertisements in question was a 26-second video posted on social media, which shows a local young woman dripping a blood-red, acid-laden exfoliating liquid, that is meant for the face, into her mouth.
A voice in the background could be heard urgently asking, “Why did you drink it?”, to which the girl responded, “So what?”.

Another video showcased a young man eating a spoonful of the brand’s sunscreen directly from the packaging.
“A further review by the NPRA found that the cosmetic products were advertised on a Facebook page with claims beyond the definition of cosmetics, specifically for ingestion or oral use,”
“These claims contradict the requirements in the Guideline for Cosmetic Claims and Guideline for Cosmetic Advertisement,” Dr Dzulkefly added.
