Donating blood is a practice that should be encouraged more in the community as every drop of blood being donated can save many lives.
Although many would be aware of how crucial blood donations are, yet ever so often we would hear rumors and myths that may make one think twice about donating.
Addressing one of the common rumors, which is “blood donation can lead to obesity”, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) took to Twitter to shut down the rumor.
In the Tweet, they wrote:
“Donating blood can lead to being overweight is a myth. The fact is that blood donation can burn up to 650 calories.”
They added saying, “But this does not mean donating blood is a way to lose weight. Be a hero who can save the lives of other Malaysian families through blood donation.”
? Derma darah boleh menggemukkan adalah mitos.

If you didn’t already know, individuals who donate blood at the National Blood Center (PDN) or any government hospitals, are eligible for privileges including outpatient treatment, medical treatment and second class ward services for free (based on the frequency of donation), as stated on PDN’s website.
If you are eligible to donate blood, don’t hesitate anymore!
