Incident details

According to Harian Metro, the 41-year-old victim suffered bruises and swelling on her nose and both hands, as well as strangulation marks on her neck, believed to be a result of the attack.

Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the victim had received a booking via an e-hailing app to pick up four passengers in Bukit Rambai before sending them to Kuala Sungai Baru town.

Upon reaching an area near a forest in Kuala Sungai Baru, one of the suspects asked her to stop the vehicle, claiming they were waiting for someone to transfer money into his account online.

“However, the victim became suspicious and started recording the situation using her mobile phone before all the suspects got back into the car,” he said.

The suspects have since been arrested

Ahmad Abu said the group consisted of two 14-year-old girls, as well as two boys aged 15 and 17, with one of them still in school.

Three of the suspects later turned aggressive, hitting the victim with a hard object and strangling her using a piece of cloth from the back of the driver’s seat, while another 15-year-old suspect fled the scene.

The victim later managed to escape by driving away before lodging a police report and seeking treatment at the hospital.

All suspects have since been arrested and placed under remand until tomorrow (20 May), and the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
