Previously, a 41-year-old woman was arrested after she stormed the main stage and tried to hug Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah during the state-level National Day 2025 celebration.

After the incident went viral, Manjoi assemblyperson (ADUN) Hafez Sabri falsely claimed in a now-deleted Facebook post that the woman was Chinese.

Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director Datuk M. Kumar later clarified that the suspect arrested was actually a local Malay woman.

On his Facebook page, Hafez has since publicly apologised, saying his original post was twisted by irresponsible parties. He’s also lodged a police report over the spread of those screenshots.

MCMC is investigating the Manjoi ADUN for his social media post

In the latest update, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) confirmed that they’ve recorded a statement from Hafez regarding the false, racially charged post on social media.

In a statement, MCMC mentioned that the post falsely claimed the woman was Chinese and stressed that such content could stir up racial tension.

“Spreading false content with racial elements is a serious offence

MCMC said the recording session and follow-up investigations were done together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at Bukit Aman Headquarters yesterday (September 2).

“The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director has confirmed this is false and could spark racial tension while creating a negative perception among the public,” the statement said.

The commission added that the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in jail, or both if convicted.

“MCMC reminds the public that spreading false content with racial elements is a serious offense that can harm harmony and public order. Always check the authenticity of any info before posting or sharing it on social media,” it added.
