MCA Youth Information Chief, Neow Choo Seong, is calling for authorities to investigate the discovery that RM28.13 million was spent during the initial implementation of the MyDigital ID (MyDID) development project without proper approval.
Taking to MCA’s official Facebook page, Neow highlighted findings from the Auditor General’s (LKAN) Report, which revealed that the funds were disbursed without the authorisation of the designated committee.

“The revelation by the Auditor General’s Report that there were weaknesses in spending and internal controls during the initial implementation of the MyDID project is deeply concerning,” Neow stated.
He urged the government to conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation to hold the responsible parties accountable.
A question of financial governance
According to the LKAN report, a substantial amount of public money, specifically RM28.13 million, was spent by MIMOS without committee approval. Neow emphasised that this is not a trivial sum.
“The government must be responsible for ensuring that public funds are used for the benefit of the people, rather than being wasted on a project plagued by a lack of transparency and systemic weaknesses,” he wrote.
He further expressed hope that the government would not trivialise the issue by labelling it as “administrative negligence” or a “technical problem,” calling the unauthorised spending a “serious dereliction of responsibility.”
The importance of public trust

Neow also stressed that the Malaysian public wants to see justice served by holding guilty parties accountable for their actions. He warned that failing to curb these lapses immediately would cause a significant erosion of trust in the government and the agencies involved.
“This is particularly critical as the MyDID project involves the personal data and digital economy of the entire population,” Neow noted.
“Does the government expect the public to continue to trust them to manage sensitive information when this weakness is beyond the government’s ability to address?”
