The Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, has voiced his opinions regarding incidents of MARA borrowers not repaying their loans.

According to his caption in a Facebook post, he mentioned how MARA never plays favourites, but instead focuses on negotiating and always shows compassion to anyone struggling to pay back their loans.

Despite all the efforts, Asyraf Wajdi pointed out that some borrowers still ignore these opportunities and refuse to pay, even though they can afford it.

To make matters worse, he mentioned that these borrowers even flaunt their lavish lifestyles on social media.

He continued to explain that, in light of this, MARA won’t hesitate to take legal action against borrowers to ensure it recovers every bit of public money disbursed, as these funds will then be used for the benefit of others.

“If there’s an issue, come meet with MARA”

In an interview, Asyraf Wajdi also told reporters that MARA needs to be firm but fair in making sure every cent of public funds is paid back, especially since the agreements are loans.

“I have no authority to write off any loans. If there are issues, come and meet with MARA.”

He also pointed out that the principle of compassion is always highlighted, meaning anyone who agreed to repay their business or education loans must stick to the repayment schedule.
