Available on 13th November 2020, Malaysians can now get their hands on the new iPhone 12, beginning at RM3,399 for the mini and ending at RM6,699 for the 6.7″ iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Now that is way beyond what most Malaysians can afford.
With discussions surrounding Budget 2021 still very much focused on the extension of the blanket moratorium and possibly a one-off withdrawal from EPF accounts, one would be under the impression that Malaysians are facing a callous time dealing with the impact of Covid-19 and the Movement Control Order (MCO) in place.
Wrong!
Spread on social media, images of Malaysians thronging telecommunication outlets trying to get their hands on the new iPhone is the opposite of what is made out to be.
Shared on Facebook page 不断更新!新闻资讯 images of people lining up in huge lines shows just how lucky some Malaysians are that they can spend a fortune on the new iPhone.
Coupled with the caption, “Poor economy? Everyone goes crazy about the iPhone 12 that came out today.” shows just how much ‘hardship’ has hit us Malaysians.
Netizens were not impressed.
Commenting on the post, one netizen writes, “People are claiming that they do not have money. Yet are able to purchase iPhones.”
Another writes, “My friend told me that the economy is bad!”
Well, not for most of us.
Let’s hope that this will not be a trend among Malaysians and that in these trying times, we control our spending to focus more on what’s essential.
