Although not a Muslim, a form five student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Danau Kota, Setapak took Tassawur Islam as an elective subject to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, next January.
Interestingly, M Dharshini, who is also the eldest of three siblings, consistently obtained excellent results, namely grades A+ and A- every time she sat for a test for the subject. As reported by Metro, she took the subject since last year and became the only non-Muslim candidate in her school to sit for Tasawwur Islam for SPM 2020.

Apart from adding knowledge, Dharshini said, another reason she took the subject was that she wanted to fulfil the wishes of her mother who wanted her to continue her studies at a public university not far from their home. She said,
“I plan to continue my studies in medicine and by chance, the International Islamic University (UIA) is closest to home. Since I plan to apply to continue my studies there, I chose Tasawwur Islam as an elective subject in the hope of meeting the eligibility requirements set by the university.”

Dharshini’s achievement even caught the attention of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, who congratulated her and presented donations to Dharshini and her mother, as well as to SMK Danau Kota.
We hope that Dharshini gets to continue her plans in taking the medical course in UIM and hopefully she can achieve her dreams in becoming a medical personnel in the future!
