Instant noodles, mamak food and Ramly burger are some of the regular options for hungry night owls, but that’s not the case anymore, because this dim sum restaurant actually opens at night until the wee hours of the morning! Our prayers have been heard!
Unlike other dim sum restaurants, Xin Ji De Shi Hong Kong Dimsum in Penang only serves customers from 9pm onwards, all the way till 3.30am. This provides great convenience to those who have just finished working or partying, and for night owls in general who are looking for a hearty supper.
According to Sinchew, Chong and Goh who are the owners of the restaurant, have more than 10 years of experience in running a restaurant. They only relocated to this spot four years ago yet it has already surpassed other established restaurants in terms of regular customer flow.
This restaurant serves Hong Kong dim sum and deep fried food (fried wantan, anyone?). What makes them stand out among other competitors is that they only steam or fry the food when orders come in, meaning customers get freshly-cooked dishes and not leftovers from the previous day.
As you can expect, all the food are made in-house and their signature dishes include the glorious wantan mee with braised chicken drumstick…
…and pork stomach with fish maw soup.
“Sometimes, we’d also introduce unique dim sum, such as the cheesy siu mai, which is loved by all our customers,” Goh said.
Chinese tea and dim sum work like hand in glove, but if you’re afraid of having sleepless nights after drinking Chinese tea, you can always order their homemade boiled sugar cane drink.
Although the atmosphere is nothing like a hawker centre (which can be a good thing), there’s always a steady stream of customers coming in at all times. Price wise, their dishes are affordable, ranging from RM2.50 to RM10.90. That’s reasonable right?
