Malaysian food may very well be the best as compared to our neighbours, but it looks like that has caused us to take the top spot for another aspect too.

It looks like Malaysia is the most obese country, as compared to our ASEAN counterparts.

Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) took to their Instagram page to share that our country has the highest percentage of obesity among the people, at 15.6%.

They asked, “Did you know that Malaysia is the country with the highest rate of obesity among the population, compared to other ASEAN countries? In your opinion, why are so many people in Malaysia overweight?”

While we understand that our food can be quite tantalising and irresistible, eating can also be countered with exercise.

Though, many in the comment section still decided to blame our local cuisine anyway!

“Understand that the food in Malaysia is too good.”

“That’s because the food in Malaysia is the tastiest.”

“This is food heaven, boss.”

While we agree that Malaysia is indeed a food heaven, everything should be enjoyed in moderation. Paired with some exercise, we could easily (and happily) lose out on this top spot.

Though it may seem like a compliment to our local dishes, this is something we should be concerned about for the health and wellness of our fellow Malaysians.

What do you think is causing obesity in our community? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
